What is up with my couch?

Help me cure my sofa.

We bought a leather sofa from pottery barn a few months ago. The finish is inconsistent in several areas. See here:

Some of the weird areas are small spots (size of a quarter), others are are large parts, like half of an arm. Anyone seen this before and have the cure?

We've tried rubbing with dry cloth and damp cloth, both of which make spots disappear for awhile, but they return.

If you only bought it a few months ago, you should absolutely be able to return it or get it repaired for free. I would try that before doing any other DIY attempts at fixing it, as they might invalidate the warranty.

I googled mold on leather and looked at the images, which somewhat resembled your image.
