My Macbook has been inexplicably been freezing

I have a brand new Macbook which has been for the most part pretty great. But it's been doing a few odd things lately...
For the second time this week, I've punched in an odd combo of keys that immediately moves my browser window an inch to the right. On the left of the browser, I see my desktop image, blurred out. Then between the blurred desktop and the browser, there's a vertical black bar. At the bottom of the black bar is a right-facing arrow in a circle.
This seems to be some sort of shortcut to... do something... but the problem is, that the trackpad becomes a hand and I can't get out of this mode, whatever it is. I can't even Crtl+Alt+Del out of it because of the trackpad not being able to click while in this mode. Esc won't work; I've hit every button and nothing as well. The only thing I can do is cold restart. Then it works fine, but it's just so frustrating to have to do this.
I've googled around and I can't figure out what this is. Nothing has been remotely helpful. What gives? How can I stop it from happening again? (If you PM me, I can send you a picture of my computer when it was doing this.)
My Macbook is a Macbook Pro (Retina, 15 inch, mid 2015), OS X, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory 16 GB, 1600 MHz, DDR3.

(i asked to see the screen shot.)
it looks like it might possibly be trying to invoke spaces/mission control somehow. are you doing anything with the function keys when this happens? escape wouldn't get you out of it, and it doesn't show up as an app in force-quit. F11 is the usual invoke, some people also have it set to invoke with the track pad.
you might want to go in and look at your settings for mission control and hotcorners (in the screensaver control panel) and check.

(that grey you see coming in from the left isn't your blurred-out normal desktop, it's the default dashboard background which is just plain grey)
