Birdseed, dog food and potting soil proximity in retail.

Calling on hardware/homegoods/pet/general store folks! I have heard that it is bad to stock pet food next to bags of WILD birdseed and/or soil due to contamination possibilities. Is it ok to put bagged WILD birdseed next to bagged soil?

Just saying: Every mefi bone in my body wanted to frame this post around the cat/mouse/cheese river-crossing riddle, and I think my restraint deserves some acknowledgment.

Not actually safe; bagged soil is highly susceptible to mold, and many molds are toxic to birds, both wild and house birds. Soil is best placed distant to pet foods and bird seed. Also, keep an eye on the expiration dates on the soils and sell off or remove by then.
