A firm orthopedic bed mattress for a bad back?

Can someone recommend me a good firm orthopedic bed mattress please (details inside).

So I've tried searching through previous questions on Metafilter about bed mattresses, but I can't find the answer I'm looking for.

The basics are: I live in the UK, I sleep hot (so I'd like to avoid memory foam) and I have a bad back. I've found over the years that a firm mattress is the only way I can avoid waking up with bad back pain. I've heard that orthopedic mattresses are good, but I have no idea what type of mattress I should be looking at.

Price-wise, I'm not made of money, but I do appreciate that a good mattress will last a long time and will do me well. Thanks in advance.

I am in the US so I'm not sure if this mattress would be available to you, but we just got the Tempurpedic Rhapsody Breeze about a month ago. It's memory foam but firm and my husbands back pain and my various sports pains are gone. I sleep hot and the mattress is designed for air flow - it totally works. I like the mattress because I can't feel the bed moving at all when my husband gets toss and turney. I'm a stomach sleeper and he is a side sleeper. It was around $5,000 U.S. For a king with a split box frame (to get up our narrow stairs) bed stand and delivery. Worth every penny.

One possibility is buying a firm latex topper for a memory foam mattress. Latex is supposed to sleep cooler than memory foam. I sleep hot and live in a warm area, and have a memory foam mattress with latex topper and this works well enough for me.
