Blueberry Birthday Party

My son's first birthday is coming up! I want to throw him a blueberry-themed party. I need help!

For some reason I didn't think it would be hard to find blueberry decorations.

We're going to have the party at home, mostly in the backyard/deck area if the weather cooperates. Ideas I already have:
- blue paper lanterns
- blue balloons, streamers, plates, etc etc etc
- that's about it

I have limited time and energy for making my own things/crafting. I can handle a couple of relatively low effort high impact projects. I'm thinking about cutting out a zillion blueberry silhouettes and making a garland since it's pretty mindless and I can work on it 5 minutes at a time. That's about the best idea I have at the moment. :/

For food we'll obviously have blueberries, although I am worried about finding fresh ones at the end of September. I'm going to make a vanilla blueberry shaped cake and either cover it with fresh blueberries or make blueberry frosting depending on blueberry availability. Blueberry ice cream. MAYBE oatmeal blueberry cookies to take home. I'm not quite sure what to do about something savory... paninis with blueberry jam?

This is way not good enough and not my style at all! When I throw parties, I go all out. And this is a big occasion! I know my kid won't remember it, but that's not really the point :)

Blueberries freeze really, really well. Buy fresh ones now and freeze them.

The song/story Mors lilla Olle has a blueberry/boy theme.

Blueberry turkey burgers are a thing and actually pretty tasty. You could make mini-sliders. Blueberry lemonade is a pretty good drink. You could even make regular lemonade and just put blueberry ice cubes in it and toss some blueberries on top. How old are the kids? Basically anything that has a "round" aspect to it will be okay. TetherBlueberryBall. Pin the crown on the blueberry. Cornhole but with blueberry beanbags. Face painting but with all blue colors (could be whales, flowers, waves).

And yeah amro is right, Buy and freeze. You can freeze them on sheets and then pack them in bags and have as many blueberries as your freezer can hold.

You could expand to include 'blueberry picking' which would mean baskets, straw bales, and other rustic-farm type decorations. For a savory, maybe a green salad with goat cheese, nuts, and blueberries, and grilled chicken would work on that too. Or a blueberry barbecue sauce on BBQ chicken.

You could do cedar-planked salmon with a blueberry sauce. That was my favorite dish at McCormick & Schmicks when I was a kid. This apparently is the recipe.

Some fun stuff searching for blueberry party on Etsy.

Too bad you're not doing a strawberry party, Oriental Trading has a bunch of stuff for that!

Go to the craft store or the toy store, buy a bunch of blue balls (or regular styrofoam balls and paint them blue, whatever) and have a blueberry hunt! Like easter eggs but with blue balls. The party favors could be little blue playground balls the kids find.

80 billion little blue pompoms from the craft store = BLUEBERRY FIGHT. From experience, 1-year-olds LOVE to have handfulls of pompoms thrown at them. (They will try to eat them, tho.)

I see a lot of cute kiddie art where you draw a basket and have little kids make blue fingerprints to make a "basket of blueberries."

Blue -on-blue polkadots would works with your theme. Toppers for food and cupcakes. Straws. Tissue balls! And also you don't have to cut out... there are plenty of blue circle garlands.

Croquet, but everybody's ball is blue. Freestyle no-table pingpong with blue pingpong balls and blue paddles. Twister, but all the dots are blue. Blueberry ballpit (fill a kiddie pool with blue plastic balls, insert toddlers).

Have the kid or kids (or adults) do some sort of cute little craft with blue bingo markers.

Shoot, just was going to say ball pit with blue balls but Don Pepino beat me to it! We just did a one year birthday party last week and the kiddie pool ball pit was a hit and super easy.
