Macfirewirefilter: I just bought a minimate--250gigs. It shows up on my desktop as being 1000gigs plus. Do i really have that extra space? Is something wrong?

Response by poster: I just opened disk utility to verify it, and it failed--now it doesn't show up anymore---should i erase and reformat?

:/

if you JUST bought it, i'd just return it for a different one to be on the safe side. sounds like it's got problems.

I would reformat it. Easy enough to do with Disk Utility. If afterwards it reports a different capacity than you expect, or unmounts suddenly, I would return it for replacement.

Response by poster: i tried erase, and it does it, apparently, but won't mount afterward (and it shows in disk utility as 2.0 TB Micronet). I guess i'll have to exchange it....i only just unpacked it today. thanks.

Response by poster: I got it to work! I brought it in to work, and called them, and they said to disk utility it (which i had already done at home), so i connected to my G5 there, and it erased and reformatted and mounted perfectly. So far, so good! thanks all.
