Linking monitors together

How should I link my monitors for a gig I'm running the PA system for?
The situation is that my mates band are playing a gig for which I'm running the PA system - its a rock band doing a thinned down acoustic set (congos instead of kit, acoustic guitars etc.). Basically, we're setting up a PA in a place which doesn't have any existing facilites for this kind of thing.
This means that we're bringing in some monitors - Laney wedge monitors. The mixer has one preamp monitor output, and each monitor has 4 jack plugs (Mic, Line, Link and Ext. Speaker). At present, we've only been able to daisychain the monitors by using the 'Ext. Speaker' output, which I know is a bad idea because we're essentially amplifing the signal more than need be - resulting in distortion.
Basically, I've tried all combinations of wiring - does anybody have any ideas of how I should go about this? Cheers.

Response by poster: So, essentially link to line? A link to the online manual would be fantastic.

So, from what I can tell, this is a powered mixer and you're using powered monitors? How many monitors are you running? How many mics will you be running? Are the guys amps big enough that you can run just vocals, acoustic guitars, and congas in the mains/monitors?

Response by poster: Power mixer, powered monitors and a preamp monitor output to monitors... The only things going through it will be the congos (two mics), vocals (two mics) and a synth (line input) - with iPod playing during the breaks. Everything is fed in by XLR, apart from the synth. Monitor output is by jack.
All the backline stuff is high power, so bass guitar and two other guitars will be going through their own amps.
