Quality place for eyeglass frame adjustments in San Francisco?

Where can I find a good place to adjust eyeglass frames in San Francisco?

I'm here on an extended stay and am having a hard time getting good adjustments from places that are well-reviewed on Yelp.

I'm based in the Marina for now but am happy to travel for someone who is knowledgable, careful, and precise about finding a good fit with eyeglasses.

Best answer: I'm in SF most summers and have had a few contacts / glasses related emergencies - Stamper Optometry in the Mission have always been helpful and friendly.

Best answer: I like Stamper Optometry a lot. They're super nice and their prices are affordable. Based in the Mission, though: http://drstamper.com/

I like Underground Optical just off of Union Square

Best answer: Stamper was very nice to me when I needed new nosepads on some glasses (that I had not even bought from them.)

This is weird but go to Optical Works on Polk or, potentially better, Fine Arts Optical on Valencia, ask for Scott (owner) and/or tell what's her name from Finland (you'll know her by her accent) that I sent you. memail me and I'll tell you my actual name to use. The one on Polk is own/run by a friend of Scott's now, and I haven't actually done $$ business with them since the ownership change, and she may not know me by name. The folks on Valencia know me.

This is a pedigreed group. The family has been in the business for literally generations.

I'm gonna go ahead and vote against Stamper. They're great eye doctors, but the vast majority of physical repairs or adjustments are out of their range and will require mailing frames to a manufacturer or other contract shop (unless you're talking about a really, exceedingly simple adjustment).

Examples:

-A nosepiece on my frames (bought from them in May at terrific expense) snapped off. It looks like it requires a specific tool to reseat it. Stampers' office: nope, we can't do that here and we''ll need $200 to send it to the manufacturer to do it. (I literally got off the phone with them just a couple minutes ago about this, after having dropped off my glasses two days ago).

-My partner bought a pair of prescription sunglasses there in February. They arrived in March. A lens fell out in the first week. Stamper's office couldn't fix them on site, so they mailed them off. They didn't return until early May.

Like I said, great docs, not great glasses servicing.

Response by poster: Thanks, all. My adjustments were pretty basic, and I had a nice experience with Stamper. Good to know about how they handle more extensive repairs!
