What is the best place for men's haircut near Union Square/Flat Iron NYC?

I am new to the area (22nd and Broadway) and looking for something slightly better than a barber shop but not as fussy as a >$50 high-maintenance salon. I have a couple particulars (scarring on head, fine hair that's not terribly easy to make look good) that require a conversation. Barber shops in the area seem to be pretty much a fast-paced get in/get out kind of experience. I'm also not looking for a hipster place that makes you feel like you're not cool enough to be there. A nice, down to earth person would be great.

My dad (and I) like Julio at Albert's.

Made Man on 23rd and 7th, two avenue blocks over from the Flatiron, is great. It was about 25 or 30 for a cut if I remember correctly. It's one of those "cool" hipstery barbershops with a throwback aesthetic, but the dudes there definitely know what they're doing.

Truman's is pretty good, but can be expensive.

I also did Dramatics for awhile when I first moved to the city. They aim to be a cheap salon. The guys and gals there know what they're doing and hone their craft. But it's not necessarily consistent. There's one on 23rd st. I used to go to.

You are me about six months ago.

Park Ave Barbershop is cheap and fast and totally old-school, but my haircut looked cheap and fast too. Could have been an off day for them, but I wouldn't go back.

Couple weeks ago I tried Barbering by Marcus on East 21. Just as fast, at $50 not as cheap, but you get what you pay for. Rolin cut my hair, highly recommend him, especially if your standard response to, "what do you want today?" is "I dunno, just make it look good?" Not too hipstery, not too rushed.
