I'm looking for shoes to wear with this dress to a wedding this summer.
While wearing this dress is the impetus for buying new shoes, I don't currently own a summer-y, open-toed, dressier shoe, so ideally I'd buy something that was versatile enough to fill that hole.
The only real requirements are that I prefer something open-toed and the heel should be 2" max (lower=better). Oh and available in a size 8.
I've looked around a bit on Zappos, but I'm having trouble finding something that's open-toed and dressy that doesn't scream cheap bridesmaid shoes.
Thanks metafilter!

You have a ton of color options. I'd hit the thrift stores to see all the open-toed shoes that were donated after being worn once to a wedding. This is where I found a pair of designer open-toed turquoise sandals with straw flowers that perfectly matched a blouse I wore to a wedding. For $3. Not a desirable approach for everyone, but it works for me! If you find thrifting sketchy then perhaps you'd consider searching consignment. At least at the latter they weed out the nasties for you, but you still find a wealth of unique choices likely not available in your local stores.

Response by poster: Color: This was one thing I was hoping for suggestions on. Black/brown read as very winter to me (and are well-represented among the shoes I already own), but I'm not sure what other colors to go for that will still be versatile and go with the dress. As you can maybe guess, I'm terrible at this kind of thing.
Leather: Is fine and preferred insomuch as it correlates with quality.
Feet Issues: Nothing really. My feet are a smidge on the wide side, so super pointy shoes won't work well, but I don't usually need wide sizes.
Accessories: No idea what I'll wear. I can make the accessories work around the shoes.
Thrifting: Is out. The wedding is in a month, and I have several major commitments before then. I'd definitely rather buy online, even if it means buying a bunch of options and then returning.
Thanks!

I saw that dress and immediately thought espadrille or a nude (if ivories or tans are nude for your skin tone) sandal. Maybe something like this goldish espadrille, or this nude sandal?
I have a pair of Cole Haans and they are super durable, comfortable and classic. This open-toed wedge could work and be quite versatile later on.
Other random options: a) b) c) [with platform still 2 inches]

to me, that dress is crying out for red shoes. These are a bit pricey, but are fantastic, and look like they would be comfortable, which is important at a wedding because you tend to be on and off your feel all night.

Response by poster: I'll stop threadsitting after this, but here's a photo of me in the dress. It hits me lower than on the model, so I'm worried a thick ankle strap will chop me up and look funny. Maybe I'm exaggerating though?

Best answer: I agree about red shoes with that dress, and you might find it to be a versatile shoe color in general. It's pretty seasonless and can add that certain something to an outfit that is otherwise very simple or monochromatic.
Miz Mooz sandals
Strappy patent very low wedge
Low Fidji sandal with almost deco details
Wedge with low vamp (nothing across the ankle) and curvy edges

I think they've styled the dress really well with a nude colored shoe, and that's what I'd be looking for as well. A nude color will elongate your leg, rather than giving your leg a chopped up appearance. Look for something similar to what they've styled it with on Zappos or 6pm.com. Nude is also wonderfully versatile for your summertime wardrobe.

Here are a couple low-heel options:
Gentle Souls 'Lily Moon' Sandal
Halogen 'Olson' Pointy Toe Studded T-Strap Flat (in Pale Pink Leather)
If you would consider something with a slightly higher heel:
Louise et Cie 'Phiona' Leather Ankle Strap Wedge Sandal (in copper)
Alaina Leather Ankle Strap Heels (in Deep Coral or Blooming Rose)

You look lovely in the dress. Would you not consider leather sandals, because there are so many nice options? And then there are the mules? I think you could choose between red, fawn, cream, white, flesh colour and gold. Lots of choice.
My MIL, who had very simple tastes, once went to a wedding in a summer dress with matching plastic purple flipflops, she was one of the most stylish people there because simplicity + confidence + perfect match.

I would go with apple green -- super springy/summery, matches the green in the dress (and draws out a subtle color), and would look super cute with other dresses.
This pair is the perfect shade of green.

I disagree that nudes shoes look good here. They somehow dull the flowers at the bottom of the dress when those flowers should be a focal point. This cut and print are crying out for red peep toe pumps like these: http://m.zappos.com/rsvp-maren-peeptoe-red-patent
I'd also wear a colorful monochrome statement necklace in a color different from the red shoes, but that's how I roll.

Best answer: A few ideas: Carrini Crisscross Strappy Wedge Sandal (BIG sale on these cuties); Patagonia Women's Solimar Wedge Strap Sandal in Coral, yum; Donald J Pliner Didi Elastic Demi-Wedge Sandal; Teva Cabrillo Strap Wedge 2 in "Crockery," the middle image; The Flexx Women's Gladding Wedge Sandal in "Corda Ariel"; The Flexx Women's Band Together Gladiator Sandal (tons of colors! I'm coveting the "Eggplant") ... and for something a little more hippykinky, Melissa Melissa + Karl Lagerfeld Violatta Sandals, gold.

I agree with ImproviseOrDie that red shoes would be perfect with that dress. A red patent shoe would be something that looks summery, not like a bridesmaid shoe, and you could wear them again with other clothes (I like red shoes to add a pop of color with an otherwise neutral outfit).
DSW has this classic patent-leather peeptoe or this more avant-garde style. Amazon has these Trotters peep-toe pumps - I myself love Trotters because they are comfortable and fit my Fred Flintstone feet.

I love the shoes shown with the dress, but not in a nude. I think something similar with just a couple or few narrow straps, and in spring green, pink, yellow, light blue, white, gold, or silver. Just not nude, black, or brown. I LOVE that dress! You can wear it to death, with heels for dressy events and with flats for more casual daytime. So sweet. And it looks lovely on you.

I would wear strappy red or silver sandals with that dress. With red I'd want a heel, something like this but with silver you could get away with a flat one if the cut were delicate, like this. I like this white gold sitch too.
Taste is very subjective. Most of the suggestions in this thread seem too clunky to me with that pretty, delicate pattern, but obviously some people's perception is different. You really can't go far wrong; the dress is so lovely.

ooh just wanted to put in another vote for these patent red ones that Misu suggested, they are smashing. The dress looks fantastic on you!

Response by poster: Thanks for the suggestions and the compliments! I ordered seven or eight different pairs. I'll report back on what I end up choosing.

Response by poster: I think I'm going to wear the low wedges that Mizu suggested, although I'm also considering these other wedges (which I thought I saw here but can't find linked now). Either way I'm keeping both. Oh and I got the sandals that taz suggested as well. They're not quite right for the dress, but they're super comfortable and I've already worn them a few times. Thanks again everyone!
