(Insert clever pun about phone games here)

Very briefly: I need a handful of fun Windows Phone games that can be played without a data connection. Help? :)

I have a Lumia 925 running Windows Phone 8.1. I'll be spending a bunch of time on planes soon, with access to power but not data. Whether the games are free or paid is not really a concern; I have no problem paying for games, even "expensive" ones.

Looking at the games store is confusing; I have no idea if any of those are remotely decent, and no reliable way to find out. I'd like to have a couple games that I can swap between while on these flights, but I'd like them to be good, y'know?

Past phone/tablet games I've enjoyed include Final Fantasy I and III, Chaos Rings, Contre Jour, most word-based games, Skulls of the Shogun, Zuma, Plants vs Zombies... And (don't judge me) Candy Crush/Bejeweled and their cousins.

All recommendations appreciated, thank you!

If there's a Windows version of Two Dots, I recommend checking it out.
For me, it's in that sweet spot between easy and challenging.
It does check for a connection on launch, but it'll play without it just fine.

I have it on Android, but 2048 is really fun and is a lifesaver when I'm stuck with no connection and bored. Kind of a combo of Sudoko and those old fashioned picture tile games that you have to slide around.

Best answer: My friend made Gunhouse and I can't play it because it's only on Windows Phone and Vita but you should play it! Folks seem to really like it. It's a, uh, action-puzzle game I guess? Some modern hybrid.

The page says it requires "data services" but word from the horse's mouth* is that it's erroneous. It can definitely be played offline!

Best answer: Fruit Ninja is a classic and surprisingly addictive for such a simple concept. Slash the fruit. Special effects added by different blades/backgrounds.

Cut the Rope is also lots of fun, and has some spin-offs.

Machinarium is meant to be really good; I've only played Botanicula (same game design company) so far but am intending to get Machinarium at some point because I loved Botanicula so much. Sadly, Botanicula doesn't seem to be available for Windows. More of a story/point-and-click puzzle game, which I'm not sure if you like but I like most of the games you list above so it's worth a recommendation!

Tiny Bang Story is great as well. Another point-click puzzler.

Most of these encourage you to be online, sign in with Facebook, blah blah blah but you can play them absolutely fine without doing any of that.

Seconding 2048. Nicely addictive. It still entertains me 6 months in. No need for data connection once you've downloaded to your phone.
