What teen book has this plot?

for the life of me i can't remember! the main character's uncle took her on a tour of a house and told her that her favorite author had lived there. Then after the tour was over, he told her he was mistaken - the author hadn't lived there after all. He did this on purpose, to teach her some kind of lesson, and he had a name for the phenomenon of the let down of learning that something you saw in a certain way wasn't really that way at all. help?
