Will mosquitos fly over gazebo walls?

I want to build an open top gazebo over a fire pit. If there were screens around the sides, will they fly in through the top?

Lets say I build a gazebo around a fire pit. Something pretty rudimentary. I'd want to screen it in on all sides but naturally the top would be open. With a roaring fire going, would mosquitos come in over the top?

Yes, they will.

Some but probably not as many. You should get fewer opportunistic ankle-bites, at least.

The American Mosquito Control Association says you'll find them flying up to 25 ft.

I have been bitten by mosquitoes while sitting on the balcony of my 2nd floor apartment, so yes.

The smoke from the roaring fire might discourage them some. But it probably wouldn't completely eliminate mosquitos as an issue. They absolutely will fly over the top of your gazebo walls.

You could consider making a roof with a smoke hole to give you somewhat further protection or do further research into options.

Can't you screen in the top too? (Even straight across if you have a dome top - screen is pretty invisible.)

They are very poor fliers; if you can get an upward wind of >~2.5mph across the entire opening they shouldn't be able to enter

How about this design, that has a roof?

Metal screen wire across the top.

Could you hang citronella buckets high-up on the vertical posts of the gazebo? That might help ward-off any mosquitos trying to come over the top.

I get bitten by mosquitoes on the balcony of my 4th floor apartment. To them, I think your gazebo will look more like a dinner plate than an obstacle.
