BookFinderFilter: YA Dino-humanoid Edition

Can someone tell me what book I read that involved a boy swapping worlds with his evolved-dinosaur counterpart?

Things I remember:
-The other world was one where dinosaurs evolved into dino-men. It was just like our world, only everyone was a dinosaur person.
-The boy used a modified football helmet to appear to be a dino-boy when going out in public in the dino-world.
-The world-swap was achieved using a scientist's machine, not some sort of magic.
-I think there was a spunky female friend who assisted the displaced boy in each world.

I would have read this book as a kid in the 80s.

Anyone know? Thanks!

For posterity (in case this thread is around in the future but that LiveJournal account isn't), the answer was The Double Disappearance of Walter Fozbek by Steve Senn.
