Name this book about different cultures

A few years ago, I saw a book in a second-hand bookshop that described life in different societies/cultures, with an entry per society. It was a paperback that was probably published in the '70s or '80s. I think the name was something like 'Mankind/man/people on earth', but it wasn't the National Geographic Book of Peoples of the World. I think it was also recommended in response to a previous question here on Ask MeFi, but I can't find it by searching.

Secret Museum of Mankind?
(It's a book of photos, only brief captions. from the early twentieth century, divided up by regions of the world)

It wouldn't be How to be a perfect stranger, would it? That is organised more by religion than culture.

Culture Sketches is a nice textbook like that that's been around a long time. Should be easy to find a cheap copy of an old edition. Only ~12-15 entries though--it's not a long book.
