not all HDMI is the same?

I have a Samsung LCD TV. New Apple TV works fine with it. 3 other devices refuse to display a signal: Chromecast, WDTV+, and some other digital box which has been (erroneously?) disposed of. All of the above were connected via a standard HDMI cable, no adapters needed. It's not a problem with the cable (I've experimented with different cables). What gives?

ugh i'm never buying a samsung tv again.

that power drain full power cycle trick works, and doing a factory reset might as well. I finally gave up and started plugging everything in through a receiver, and only ever using the first hdmi port.

These tvs have a weird amount of standby time off of power. Some LEDs on the bezel/inside will stay lit for several minutes after you unplug them, even if you push the power button(at which point they blink and then... come back on). I realized suddenly the problem had been solved when the power was shut off in my apartment complex for maintenance for basically half a day... and it worked again.

i really miss my panasonic plasma sometimes...

What resolution are those other devices trying to put out? Try connect the WDTV+ with a component or composite cable first, manually change the resolution to 1080p (or whatever you're after), then switch to HDMI.
