Quietish place in Cambridge to watch the college football championship?

My otherwise-sensible partner has an inexplicable fondness for the Oregon Ducks and would like to watch them duke it out with Ohio State in the upcoming championship, but our internet is mostly down and we don't have a TV. Where in Cambridge/Somerville can we hang out and watch the game tonight (Monday)? The quieter the better; I have some sensory issues and don't do so well in noisy, crowded spaces. Near Central would be great, but we have a car and can roam farther afield if the roads stay decent.

Best answer: You might try The Field, which is an Irish pub right in central square --- it's on prospect about a quarter of a block away from mass ave in the direction of whole foods.

It's a bar that will show sports, but it is not a sports bar, and thus I think there's a good chance what you'll find is their typical Monday night crowd, which I think would be quiet enough for your purposes, especially their back room. Of course, what with the college playoff being a new thing there's a chance it might be more popular than I'd guess and that the bar will be crowded. Might want to drive over a bit early and scope it out.

But in general The Field is a very mellow place -- low key, friendly staff. I sometimes watch Pats games there on the weekends because I'm looking for the same thing you're looking for. They have pretty good food as well.

If you're having trouble finding that shittiest bar in Cambridge, there is a terrible, terrible (I assume) restaurant near me in Somerville that rarely has any customers at all but does have a TV. I pass this place daily and I've never seen more than one party seated. It's called West 7 and it's in Teele Square. Give them a call, I bet they'd put the game on for you. There's also a quiet Indian restaurant on the block, I think they also have a TV but there's often someone watching it.

The Field might be quiet enough on a Monday and is a fairly pleasant space. It's similar to both the Thirsty Scholar and oh god whatever the name of the Irish place in Inman is. It might be a matter of hit or miss in terms of noise level. CBC might not be a terrible idea either.

If you know what channel the game is on, you will have better luck getting a bartender to tune it in.

Oh! And before you try any bar, you might want to double check that it is not trivia night at said bar.

Response by poster: For reasons passing all understanding, we ended up at Five Horses in Davis, which was in a relative lull (for them) despite the co-occurring championship and Celtics game. We'll definitely scope out the Field for future other game spectating. Thanks, all!
