I want to improve my Spanish while living in Brooklyn. Any suggestions?

I will be in Brooklyn and Manhattan for about 6 months and would like to improve my conversational Spanish skills. Are there any good classes or groups for this that are informal and fun?

I'm at the intermediate level and willing to pay for good classes that are less about doing homework and more about meeting in person, practicing conversation, maybe combining with dinner and drinks in a more social way. Anyone found anything like that in the city?

Try Meetup.com. there are lots of practice groups in my area so I'm sure there will be tons in a big city like NYC.

Fluent City? They have a Manhattan and a Brooklyn location and a reputation for being very social.

Seconding Meetup.com. I did this to learn another language while living in NYC and it was really good practice. I was able to find really social meet ups centered around eating and drinking which was a nice alternative to learning in the classroom (nothing like a nice glass of wine to make the conversation flow :-)

Meetup has some great conversation groups. If you can do it it would be a good idea to stay in a Hispanic Neighborhood and rent a room in a house owned by a hispanic family though. Just make it clear that you want to only be spoken to in spanish by those in the household. In brooklyn especially there are quite a few landlords who feel most comfortable speaking Spanish.
