Intranet Design Suggestion

Intranet design suggestions.

I'm aware of OSWD for simple web designs. Is there an equivalent for intranets? I'm trying to design a simple, small, basic one for my firm and need a good starting point to work and develop from. Any suggestions? Free is ideal (always!), but templates or design for a small fee would be okay, too.

It depends on what you will be running on your intranet. Are you running an entire content management system, or different services like a wiki or knowledge base. If you could explain alittle more I think the responses would be more appropriate for you.

Response by poster: Ahh, the running debate!

At this point, I think we're looking for something that is centrally controlled. Not a wiki or similar. We're starting from scratch here, and I've pretty much got free reign.

Is there an equivalent for intranets?

Begs the question -- why do you think an intranet need to be designed in any way differently from a regular website?

CityDesk is free for smaller websites (intra/internet) (roughly up to 50 pages); an unlimited (single user) version is $299. You can download the free edition. (And no, I'm not associated in any way with the vendor.)

Response by poster: AmbroseChapel: I don't. But the designs I see as OSWD and elsewhere (with some very notable exceptions) don't have the professional image that I want.
