Old song played on Dr. Demento in the mid-90s

I listened to Dr. Demento most Sundays as a kid in the early/mid-90s. One time he played a song where a guy was singing about his dog Rover (I think that was the dogs name). He was hiking across a desert or something and eventually if I remember right, he ended up eating the dog. It might have been kind of Irish sounding.

I've never been able to find it since! Help, please!

The only Rover song I remember from Dr. D. was I'm Looking Over My Dead Dog Rover, a parody of "I'm Looking Over a Four-Leaf Clover".
