Congress readmitted several Southern states to the Union in an “Omnibus Bill” it passed on June 28, 1868. Where can I find the text online?

I think what led up to it was the Reconstruction Acts... but I'm still hunting. I remember wondering this back in U.S. History in high school, but don't remember the answers. With a little more on the Reconstruction page

There's also a timeline of sorts called "Readmission to representation in Congress" farther down the page about Reconstruction.

Actually, it looks like it was called the Omnibus Southern States Admission Bill. And here.

I'm doubtful at the moment that the text is findable online, but I'm still searching. One of those links mentions H.R. 1058 - but those apparently are renumbered for each Congress, and I only find back to something like 1993 online.

This page on a Google book seems to indicate it was the 40th United States Congress.

It links over to "List of United States federal legislation, 1789–1901" and also has various shorter links to pieces... what you're looking for might be there?

Beyond that, I've followed the rabbit trail as far as I can, I think.

Best answer: It looks H.R. 1058 and its various amendments are available here in .tif format.
