egalitarian movie

Name that movie: HBO or Showtime original about a boy who is growing up in a distant future where the powers that be have declared that everything should be egalitarian.

Any student who gets better than a C is punished, good dancers have to perform with extra weight attached to them, and I believe the smart kids had to wear some kind of electronic device to dumb them down.

I believe the name of the movie included the name of the main male character. I saw it on TV in '96.

Google answers "The Incredibles" when I ask it about an egalitarian movie.

Best answer: Was it Harrison Bergeron?

Yeah, this sounds like the short story Harrison Bergeron, by Kurt Vonnegut. Don't know about the movie though.

I've not seen the movie, but yes, it sounds like it was at least based on Kurt Vonnegut's short story Harrison Bergeron.

Sean Astin! I wonder if he delivered a heart-felt speech about what it means to be human.

I"ve been looking for this movie for ages and can't find it anywhere. I heard it was the best movie made from a Vonnegut story. You should pick up the book Welcome To the Monkey House by Vonnegut it has a bunch of short stories including Harrison Bergeron. I believe the movie was originally on Showtime. Anyone know any obscure websites that will allow me to rent or buy it?
