Universal assent for a scent?

I've noticed that my female friends almost universally love it when guys wear Old Spice deodorant. Is there an equivalent scent for girls that nearly all guys go crazy for? I'm really looking for deodorant, but lotions or perfumes or other scented things could also be taken under consideration.

More notes: I am a young person. Bonus points for things that can be bought at your standard drugstore, but I'll happily make the trek to the mall or Sephora or whatever if you promise it's worth it.

Best answer: The karma scented soap from LUSH has gotten me a ridiculously large number of compliments from guys and earned me a first date with my now-husband. I know it sounds like it will be hippie perfume because of the presence of pachouli but it's really NOT at all. It has that clean soapy smell that I think boys like, plus the citrus makes it just feminine enough without screaming girl.

I remember reading years ago that men respond best to food scents — things like chocolate and pumpkin. In my personal experience, men have been more enthusiastic over the strawberry and vanilla perfume oils I've worn (by turns) than over any other scent I ever wore.

The short answer is nope, there's nothing truly universal. However, if you want to find the most cost-effective way to maximize guys sniffing you, a good-smelling shampoo is the way to go. Herbal Essences (the older kind in the bottle with the green cap) worked great for the girls I knew, but the target audience was teenage boys in 1995, so YMMV. Johnson's Baby Shampoo and anything vanilla-scented are pretty well-liked.

And to add yet another foody smell, Calgon Marshmallow is pretty great and cheap.

Pheromone by Marilyn Miglin. It's like catnip (effect, not scent).

Ha, yeah I like it when guys wear Old Spice. I agree that any time I've used really fruity shampoo I've gotten compliments.

The Sensual Amber line of products from Bath and Body Works. Definitely gets a positive response from most guys; I had a friend who had a problem with her male roommates ruthlessly using her body wash, that's how much they liked it. I'm partial to the lotion, myself.

this study got some amused press a few years ago by studying the issue and determining that a combination of lavender and pumpkin increased average penile blood flow the most.

My partner, pretty universally, dislikes perfume but does love vanilla scents and this perfume. It's gotten pretty good feedback from most people as well.

My mother always swore by this Bonne Bell stuff they sell at the Walgreens. (Or possibly, used to? I haven't seen it in recent times...) The oil, not the spray. I'm not crazy about it myself, but truth be told, the ratio of "times i have worn this" to "times i have gotten lucky wearing this" is 1:1.

I've gotten some responses from washing my hair with Pantene. I didn't particularly notice any associated scent but I had people sniffing my hair. (Eww, by the way.)

I ♥ the way Old Spice aftershave smells on my honey bunny and in return, he ♥ the way Chanel #5 smells on me. YMMV.

Dior - Pure Poison or Marc Jacobs - Woman are the two that make me weak.

Most others I'm fairly ambivalent to, but something in Pure Poison especially is hard-wired like catnip.

Response by poster: Ahhh, how did I forget that I live within a three minute walk of a LUSH store? Went and sniffed all the soaps and decided that Karma was indeed perfect, joan_holloway - feminine without being girly. Will try vanilla something next, based on overwhelming consensus. Thanks much, guys!
