iPhone 5- why are some of my podcasts no longer downloading?

I'm using the Podcast app with iPhone 5, IOS 6.1.4. Recently, some of the podcasts that I've subscribed to have stopped working. When I try to download them manually (I am not using iTunes, just my iPhone) I get an error message. The vast majority of my podcasts are downloading fine. Why might this be?

The three podcasts that aren't updating aren't affiliated with each other, and nobody else on the FB pages for these podcasts seems to be having an issue.

Just brainstorming here - Is it possible that something with the RSS feeds has gone wonky and the app isn't aware that new episodes are available to download?

I had similar issues with the podcast app and finally moved to a different one.

What is the error message?

Response by poster: It's just "Download error. Tap to retry" over and over.

I just searched this issue on Apple's site and it seems the most common reason for this is lack of available space on the iPhone. I'm not sure if that solves your issue or not.

Response by poster: Not to babysit, but no, it's a brand new phone with plenty of room.

No problem - glad you're here to answer questions. :-)

What about your connection? Are you using your network carrier's connection or a wifi connection? If the podcasts are too large and you're not on wifi that can sometimes cause the "tap to retry" issue.

Response by poster: I've tried on two different WiFi connections that are good. And again, most of my podcasts download with no issues whatsoever. It's just a few.

I saw the same thing. The relative flakiness of Apple's Podcasts app -- with or without syncing with an instance of iTunes prompted me to try some others and I've personally settled on the app Downcast.

It's very disappointing, I formerly had great success but in April I had the same problem with the Greg Proops Podcast simply not updating using Apple's app. Whether with iTunes, or on the phone: nothing worked. Downcast solved my problems.

I realize this is not really a solution to the problem that's desirable - the darn Podcasts app should do its darn job! - but it's how I solved a similar problem.
