Where can/how do I commission pixel art?

I'm redesigning my blog and want some pixel art assets for it (background + a few sprites). I've tried rolling my own and have only succeeded in reminding myself that I'm a poor artist. The people I've found seem mostly interested in doing avatars and the like and this is a slight larger request.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MeFi's own clango, aka rstevens of DieselSweeties.com, may be able to help you.

Best answer: Many pixel art forums have a subforum for posting job offers. You should browse a few of them to get an idea of how they work and whether it looks like you'd get a good result for a reasonable price from them. (You probably will, I'm just suggesting to look around first.)

http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/

You'll find a subforum titled Job Offerings.

I chose Pixeljoint as the example, since it was the first to come up with a search for me. I'm sure there are plenty of other places if you want to compare them.

On another note, many of these forums also have a lot of people who would be willing to critique and improve your own efforts too. If you think your own art is salvageable with some work and expert guidance, that option would involve you spending more of your own time and less money.

I know someone who’s pretty handy with pixels and takes commissions. Feel free to MeMail if you would like an introduction.

Seconding infinitewindow: my husband commissioned a portrait (of us) from Señor Rstevens.
