What is the english language subtitle font used in many asian films, such as this one? Why is it so predominant, despite its lack of clarity? Any/as much information about it is appreciated.

Best answer: That is the style of the Latin characters in many Asian-language fonts. SimSun (a Chinese character font made by Microsoft) is a prime example.

Best answer: Previously asked on Metafilter: Why does Chinese printing of Latin characters always use the same font?

Response by poster: Both excellent answers.

xil, I searched before posting, but I think including the "subtitles" keyword was my big mistake. It's true – this font shows up on packaging, signs, and all kinds of places.

Thank you both.
