I refrigerated a bottle of Carolan's Irish Cream and it solidified.

Is there any recourse?

The Carolan's website says it is fine to store it in the fridge at temperatures down to 5 degrees. I would set it out at room temperature for an hour to see if the texture returns to normal.

Response by poster: It's been sitting out for two days, but still rock solid. Is it possible the honey has crystallized?

If it's just the honey, then I imagine that warming it would restore the consistency. Try placing the bottle in a pan of hot water.

Perhaps you could ask Carolan's directly on Facebook?

I personally would try to return your bottle to the store, or failing that, appeal directly to the brand via facebook.

Irish cream turns lumpy if the temperature fluctuates too much. Also, how old is the bottle? It's only good for two years from manufacture, unopened. 6 months, opened. Same recommendation from both Baileys and Carolans.

Response by poster: It must have been temperature fluctuations as it was an unopened bottle. I finally thought to stir it with a long chopstick and was able to ... well, not exactly pour, more like glop some into a glass. It looked like curdled custard and didn't smell much better. At that point we decided discretion was the greater part of valor and threw it away. Thanks to everyone for your help.
