What are the best restaurants in Berlin?

I'll be in Berlin for 4 days in June and the people I'm with (3-4 of us total, 1 is unsure) want to eat in some great places in Berlin.
Ideally, they want places with delicious food, but also possible also places with memorable or remarkable interiors or clientele. Assume money is no object.
You could visit one of the dark restaurants. I've never been there, but they're pretty high on my list to check out if I'm ever in the neighborhood. [1] [2]

Response by poster: I've dined in the dark before in San Francisco. I highly recommend it. It's an incredible experience.

I do this kind of research a lot but not for Berlin
I'd see if I can find references on chowhound and the older parts of eGullet. I'd also see if any of the bigger gastrobloggers have eaten at any of them (Start with UlteriorEpicure and his blogroll), also for this sort of thing Michelin has its uses.
Berlin isn't one of those cities where there is some famous place that just leaps off the pages as The Place to Eat
Quickly I sort of came up with this blog post
for a place that has two Michelin Stars. For what it sounds like you are sort of looking for, Michelin is still a pretty good imprimenteur.
Then putting that name into Chowhound, I get a few more ideas.
I also find this blog - which beyond looking useful also has a nice looking list of Berlin foodie blogs.
I think if you read a bunch of that stuff you'll come up with a pretty great list of places to eat.

Not sure if these qualify as "best" in Berlin, but I can name a couple of memorable places that we really enjoyed. First is a very oldy-worldy place called Max & Moritz, near Moritzplatz U-bahn. Historic setting with a lot of charm. I had my very first taste of eisbein there (and then went on to order it two more times during our week there). They also did a good flammekuchen (Alsatian pizza-like flatbread).
We also twice visited a bar in Mitte called Gambrinus on Linienstraße at the corner of Friedrichstraße. They had a small restaurant in the back that was packed all the time. We only drank there, but it had an incredibly authentic-and-local feeling. Staff spoke no english, and the beer was amazing. Well, the beer is amazing everywhere in Berlin.

Try Reinstoff in Mitte, which recently earned its second Michelin star. I liked it there, and would describe it as variously experimental. Berlin is not the capital of fine dining in Germany, but things are improving.

I meant to type "cautiously experimental". Also, for English-language recommendations about less expensive restaurants, have a look at Unlike Berlin, Berlin Bites and Spotted by Locals. I second the recommendation for the chowhound forums (you can simply search for Berlin or for the name of one of the restaurants).

It sounds like you want Fischers Fritz. We had a reservation there when we were in Berlin in January but unfortunately our plane was delayed (by a day) and so we missed it.
For the food we did have, my opinions seemed to jibe pretty well with the recommendations given by Foodie in Berlin. Also from that list:
Noto
Reinstoff
Tim Raue
The best medium range place we ate at is possibly Renger Patzsch. Sort of comfort food done really well.
For what its worth, the best food we had in Berlin is Turkish, and not expensive at all.

If it counts as decor, this place serves food in total darkness...
