How do I contact English, Literature, and Drama teachers in NYC?

I want to offer super-cheap ($10 to free) Shakespeare tickets to educators and their students in the NYC area. I'm interested in contacting both high school and college teachers. Would they likely welcome this or consider it spam? Is there some kind of message board or other resource I can use to contact these folks.

Audience Extras. It's not exclusive to educators and students but it mostly skews that way.

Response by poster: Thanks, rada. I should be clear. I need to exclusively contact teachers.

Best answer: Well, I'm a high school English teacher and I would be glad to get an email at work about something like this. It might be tedious, but you could look at local school's websites to gather email addresses; most will have faculty listed by department with emails provided. To save time, you could probably just contact the department heads. My dept head generally disseminates this kind of info to us when she deems it useful (i.e. a recent sales pitch for an iPad vocab program that is relevant to our curriculum).

Best answer: There's a weekly chancellor's newsletter emailed to all the principals, I've seen similar offers included. Maybe start with Paul King who's the contact listed on the DOE Arts page.

Best answer: Try through one of the associations.

NY State Theatre Ed Assn
NY State English Council

If it's something you are going to be doing annually, it's worth it to build an individual email last. The best way to do this is to use district/school websites to find actual names. It's a healthy project for an intern or entry level person.

My thought would be to start out in one or more of the ways above, but ask in that first email blast for individual teachers to sign up if they would like to be on your mailing list, then build your list using only those confirmed email addresses and drop the rest of the blast emails. Do another blast at the start of every school year.

And a question: if I know some theater teachers in NYC can I pass this along with your contact information for them to sign up? Or is this just a generic how-to question on MeFi?

Response by poster: CathyG, I would be grateful if you passed it along. I dodn't want to spam MeFi, but if you MeMail me, I will be happy to send you details.
