Wordpress / Buddypress question about user roles

I have a Buddypress site set up with all of my contributors set up as Authors. This has worked well, up until this point, where the users want to make groups. However, the Author role doesn't have permission to create groups. I've used several role modifying plugins to try to switch it on, but none of the plugins have this option available. The current plugin I'm using for role moderation (called 'Members') has an option to add in new Wordpress actions to allow/disallow, but I'm not sure what this would be called. Further data about installed plugins, versions, etc. available upon request. For the moment let's say that simply changing all user's roles to something else isn't an option.

You need to know what the name of the capability is that is being checked.

Once you have that information, you can add that capability to the role.

Also this may be helpful.

Response by poster: Would http://codex.buddypress.org/groups-group-create-complete/ this be the capability?

No, I don't think that's right.

I'm not too familiar with buddypress but from googling, it looks like older versions didn't use bulit-in roles and capabilities very well. That may or may not have been addressed.

See the last link in my post. Make sure the settings in the backend are correct. I'd test the site or a new site with some sort of default or known-good theme, and with a couple different user roles. The issue might not be role related at all.

Response by poster: I can't believe I didn't check it first, but it was just a setting issue, not roles at all. Thanks for the help.
