Leather repair

What's the best way to repair cat scratches on a (neutral shade) leather sofa? Is there anything better than that "Leather Magic" stuff?
A co-worker told me once that she uses a little extra virgin olive oil rubbed into the scratches with a soft cloth. She has both cats and leather furniture and swears by this method.
