GIMMIE SONGS! (for a mix)

GimmieSONGSFilter: Need happy/peppy hopeful "i hope you might like me, because i like you." songs for a mix cd.

I've got the following:
(note, some of these are not exactly hopeful, but there are bits that are important to the "relationship")

Portions for Foxes - Rilo Kiley
Hold on When You Get Love and Let Go... - Stars
Faster - Matt Nathanson
Red Heart - Hey Rosetta!
Last Person - Jenny Owen Youngs
Swimming Pool - The Submarines
Kick Drum Heart - The Avett Brothers
Pale Blue Eyes - The Kills (Velvet Underground cover)

Any genre except hip-hop/rap/country would do fine. I have no bones with those genres, just not what I'm looking for on this project.

Thanks!!!!

I like the Beatles' "I Want to Tell You" and "Got to Get You Into My Life."

The Lucksmiths - A Great Parker or Great Lengths.

But then, I'm a huge sucker for the band in general.

PS: Great Lengths is time appropriate:
It took until October
To win you over

If you don't mind getting a little...dirty, Let's Pretend We're Bunny Rabbits by The Magnetic Fields.

XTC - Rocket From A Bottle

I was reminded of this when she popped up on my running mix this morning, but lots of Katy Perry songs fit this bill - particularly Teenage Dream and Hummingbird Heartbeat, if you don't mind some fairly strong innuendo.

I Want You to Want Me (of course!)
FNT - Semisonic
Into the Morning - The Weekend
With Arms Outstretched - Rilo Kiley

Want to get literal?
Song for a Mix Tape - The Ataris
The Mixed Tape - Jack's Mannequin

Terrible obscure Canadian music?
The Five-Alive Song - Svelte

(note: these are from an actual mixtape circa 2005; unsuccessful; YMMV)

This may be a TINY bit more self-deprecating than you want - "Does Everyone Stare" by The Police. I love it because it's about the "I like you and hope you like me, but BOY that's making me act like a DAMN IDIOT" feeling. (It also has one of the single funniest lyrics I've ever heard in a song - "I never noticed the size of my feet/Until I kicked you in the shins.")

Although, "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" is another good option; the lyrics are still about "she's awesome and I'm nervous about my chances", but the song is a lot livelier and more cheerful.

Corny town: "Take a Chance on Me," by Abba. The lyrics to "Shiver Shiver" by Walk the Moon are not quite right but it sounds like someone wanting to get together.

An oldie, but so peppy and cute:

I've Got a Brand New Pair of Roller Skates (You've Got a Brand New Key)

Be Still My Heart, by The Postal Service

Fresh Feeling, by the Eels (Link to a live version, as the original is blocked on YouTube, but I would recommend looking up the album version.)

Trains, by The Vapors

Best answer: Looking at your list a second time, you might also consider "First Person" by Jenny Owens Young. It's chipper and cheerful and why not? and it would mirror nicely with Last Person on a track listing.

Best answer: am loving Tegan & Sara's cheerfully adorable new single "Closer"

Ooh ooh I've made these before! Here's a good one:

Jill Barber "When I'm Making Love to You"

Oh you're not my first love
And you may not be my last
But ask me if I give a damn
If I fall in love too fast

Oh, it will take you with the tide
It may move you far and wide
Me, I'm happy just to be here
By your side...

Also Peter Bjorn and John, "I Want You"

..Don't choke, he's coming your way
Bound to choose the wrong choice again
Oh my God, is it that hard for you to see that I want you?

(erm, it's lighter than it sounds here!)

Rope Me in And Smoke Me by Lizzie West & The White Buffalo is a bit more sultry and "you're hot, please seduce me and don't leave me hanging" if that's what you're looking for.

Bit of an oldie (but goodie): Something to Talk About - Bonnie Raitt

Roxy Music - To Turn You On

Also, I love the song, but Pale Blue Eyes is kind of a bummer.

Wonderin' by Nicole Reynolds is an essential part of every mix like this I've made.

Overlap by Ani DiFranco fits into the sultry vibe too, if that's what you're looking for.

This might help.

Can you tell

More Peter, Bjorn & John

I really don't know how y'all make your songs play with the little yellow buttons. Oh, bother. :-/
