Adding laptops to a Windows 2008 domain

What is the best practice for setting up Windows laptops inside and outside of a domain?

I have been asked to set up 40 Windows 7 Pro laptops for the faculty of an educational organisation. Previously they have been using Windows 7 home laptops without profiles or logging into XP desktops with roaming profiles. Their server is Windows 2008.

The laptops will be used inside the organisation (over very poor wireless connections)and at home. Presently they do not have remote access so I will not need to set up a VPN.

What is the best way to set up these laptops and can anyone point me to resources to help me do so. Think setting up Windows Laptops for Dummies here!

The current laptops all operate simply as 'guests' with mapped drive access.
