What is this mystery object?

What is this mystery item I found in our kitchen? Pictures here (with a pen in the background for scale).
Here's what I know:
- There are no identifying markers, numbers, or letters.
- It's made out of hard plastic.
- I found it at the way back of a high kitchen cabinet.
- It looks like it should fit over some kind of container, but I didn't find anything that seemed to fit.
- A small child used to live in this house, so it's possible some kind of child-related thing?
- It could be from as early as the mid-70s, though it's much more likely that it's from the 2000s.

It looks like the guard piece from an Oxo chopper.

It looks the the goes-over-the-blades portion of a food chopper, similar to this this one from Pamper Chef, seen in multiple parts here.

Best answer: That is the guard for the cutting blade of a food chopper, plunger type. It keeps the items you are chopping from sticking to the blade mechanism, it inserts into the body of the chopper, matching the blade pattern.

I don't know exactly which brand, but I'm betting it's a cover to a chopper similar to this one.

Looks like part of a "Slap Chop" style kitchen chopper device. The blade passes through that weird shaped slot.

It's part of a veggie chopper. We used to have one. There should be a blade that's the same shape as that zig zag, and a clear plastic containter that you toss your onions and whatever into. Then you bash the chopper a dozen times or so and PRESTO! Diced onions!
