Dad School

What are some good references or software tools to help me teach my young kids some basic computer skills (including typing, spreadsheets, and more)?

Summer is almost here. My kids (girl 10 and boy 7) will be done school in about a week. I would like to do some additional "Dad School" with them this summer. Although there are lots of things we could cover, I have decided that I want to improve their computer skills. Please recommend any tools or software that could help my kids become more computer literate. I know that I want them to work on their typing and learn the basics of spreadsheets, but I am open to other skills and suggestions.

Scrath Is a good one to start if you are going the programming route.

Are you computer literate? Maybe you can take a weekend to build a new computer with your kids. I remember one of the things I really enjoyed doing with my dad was putting together a new home computer. I learned about what a computer's insides looked like and how everything works together to make the computer work.

I can't speak to recent versions (I just realized that I used this program 20 years ago!) but Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing was awesome and I fully credit it for my ridiculously-fast touch typing skills.
