Places to stay in (East) London in June?

Have any recommendations of places to stay in East London in June?
I'm going to be there for the first half of June, about two and a half weeks, which is a slightly awkward amount of time (long for a hotel and short for a sublet).
I'm going for a conference at Queen Mary University, and I have a vague concept of what neighborhoods are nearby (Hackney, Islington, Highbury, Dalston, Finsbury Park), but don't know much about them. I'd be willing to go further afield as long as it's public transportation accessible.
I'm on a bit of a budget and I'm not super picky about accommodations -- within reason, of course!
Thanks in advance!

YHA Site, London
Here is Hostel Bookers.
The first hostel there, London365 Hostel, allows folks up to age 45. They also have private rooms. They have a Private Studio for $55.00 per night!
Have fun!

You could root around on gumtree.com and see what you turn up. There are lots of good areas - it just depends on your interests and standards.
FWIW, Queen Mary's is easily accessible on the tube. Look at the Tube Map - it's in-between Stepney Green and Mile End. So you can see how easily accessible it is from East, West and Central London. You can work out rough commute times from the TFL Journey Planner.
Good luck!

You can try spareroom.co.uk in addition to gumtree. It is possible to find short-lets and people who want to rent out rooms to commuters M-F only (some of whom might be up for 2 solid weeks just to get someone in).

Response by poster: Thanks for your help, everybody. I ended up lucking out and finding a short lease on moveflat for a place in Stoke Newington with a couple of sound artists. Score!

Also, what about housing at Queen Mary University? Sometimes they rent out dorm rooms during the summer.
I'll dig around and see whatelse I can come up with.
