help me find this movie about banned books

moviefilter question: a film from probably the 80's. it takes place at a medieval university, i believe. a new initiate is taken to a hidden room, where the monks/professors/whatever they are have kept copies of all the texts that have been banned by the church or the powers that be. any ideas?
Best answer: I think Name of the Rose is what you are looking for. Is there a mystery and some monks die with blue fingers? This look familiar?

Response by poster: jessamyn (i'm honored, btw), i don't see the scene i'm thinking of in clip 2 of the movie there. i'm going to watch the whole thing before i commit to anything.
i will say i thought they dressed a bit more civilian, as in the stark black outfits rather than in monks robes. and i remember the building interiors to be whitewashed, not bare stone. my memory could be playing tricks on me, of course.

Response by poster: I just watched the film, and I'm still not entirely sure it's the one I'm thinking of. though I can't imagine there are a number of films from that era, that take place in medieval times and have a hidden library.

I did a quick IMDB search by keyword and NOTR (also my first choice) was the first hit. Here's the search I used. I guess you could refilter it to expand/narrow the parameters if you feel NOTR wasn't the film you were thinking of.

Response by poster: i tried coupling a few different key terms with library, like "medieval", "renaissance", "university" etc., and nothing really came up. even though NOTR doesn't quite fit my memory, i would be gobsmacked i somefthing else came up.
