Can I rent a car - one-way - from the Isle of Skye to Edinburgh?

I am planning an April trip to Scotland and would like to take the West Highland train from Glasgow to Mallaig/Skye. Arriving in Skye, I would like to rent a car. Problem is, I would like to return to Edinburgh through Glencoe or Loch Lomond, and enjoy the flexibility that comes along with having your own car, rather than take the bus. Can I rent a one way car between Skye and Edinburgh?
In an ideal world, I can rent the car in Skye and just drive myself back to Edinburgh, stopping as I like along the way. However, initial research suggests that large national rental car companies don't have a presence on Skye, which might preclude my one way rental plan.

I think it's unlikely that a small local car hire company will be happy for you to return the car in Edinburgh unless they have some kind of link-up with a national company. I'd suggest you call/email and ask.
The other thing you could do is get public transport to Fort William and hire a car there. There is a Sixt in both Fort William and Edinburgh so I'd expect they would let you do a one-way hire.
Have a lovely trip!

I agree with neilb449. Hire outside of Skye. You may even be able to rent at one of the big nationals from Kyle of Lochalsh, which is just a short bridge away from Skye, although I don't know that and I certainly wouldn't bet on it. Fort William will be a safer bet.
If you plan on staying at least a night in Skye, do try here. It's quite lovely, and the food is far better than it has any right to be in such a remote spot.
