(OS X Lion) Why won't my 'ye olde' webcam work with FaceTime?

I have an AGFA EASY PIX SV. It works in QuickTime 7 but not in FaceTime -- which gives me the message, 'There is no connected camera'.

There doesn't seem to be any way of configuring the camera in FaceTime as the preferences option is greyed out.

Des anyone know of a fix?

A cursory look at the FaceTime Wiki suggests that FaceTime is only compatible with Apple-made cameras and, in particular, the FaceTime that Lion has is only compatible with HD Apple-made cameras.

Not true. I have FaceTime installed on my Mac mini with an older Logitech USB webcam plugged into it and it works just fine. I'll post the exact model when I get home later this evening.

Oops, it's an HP -- not Logitech after all. I just found it on Amazon.

Are you using Lion, though, Rock Steady?

Seconding Rock Steady - I have a Logitech HD webcam that runs fine on Lion, and just tested Facetime on my desktop for the first time last week.
