So does anyone know the origin of the phrase/meme "I will smite thee with my smiting stick"?
I saw one reference to "Peter Godly" on urban dictionary.

More possibly, to me, it was first used in Peter Godly -- a series of animations. Most of them are on YouTube now, but they were Flash back in the day.

I have no proof of the connection but it also sounds like an extension of the "this is my boom stick" line from Army of Darkness.

Dont know what age these other references were but Ian Dury had a single called "Hit me with your Rhythm Stick" in 1978. Hadn't (UK) heard this type of phrase involving a "something stick" before that.

The rhythm of it sounds like something from a Nick Lowe song.
