Ubuntu display setting problem

How can I get my screen back to bright?
My Thinkpad T30 running Ubuntu 11.04 was running on battery power, and the display was dimmed (by setting) to conserve power. The battery ran down and it went off. When I plugged it back in and rebooted, the display is still dimmed, even though it is supposed to be bright when plugged in. I think it may be because it is trying to return to the same state it was in when it went down. What do I need to reset to get the display back to bright?

Best answer: Does repeatedly pressing Fn-Home work? Fn-Home/End are the hardware shortcut key combinations for adjusting display brightness. You can see a little blue brightness sun icon with up and down arrows on those keys.
