What to do one night in Tech Valley? (not from the west coast)

I'll have a few hours to kill tomorrow night in Tech Valley. Won't have my own car. What can I do? Is the sushi awesome?

Where's "Tech Valley"?

The only "Tech Valley" I'm aware of is in upstate New York. California has Silicon Valley (and Porn Valley).

If you search AskMefi for advice about things to do in Silicon Valley (or San Jose, Palo Alto, Cupertino, Mountain View, etc) you'll get some decent suggestions.

Response by poster: Oh hell, I meant Silicon Valley. I was wondering why nothing came up in the search...

Response by poster: Well, if a moderator would like to amend my question from "Tech Valley" to "Silicon Valley" or even jut delete it, that would be fine by me.

Drive to the googleplex and see if you can find the Android statues.

Computer history museum, possibly.

Get a decent bite to eat @ Zibibo.

Without a car, forget it. Go to the city, which is not the Valley but at least has Bart. The valley is actually pretty boring and being short on time will make things quite tight since traffic here in the evenings is quite significant.

go to the city, that city being SF, not SJ. take 280. there are very few restaurants down here rivaling what's up north. the only one that comes to mind is saravanaa bhavan in sunnyvale, which my friends in the city will gladly drive 45 minutes to have. if you're totally SOL, drive up to Lick Observatory at Mount Hamilton (~45 mins east of SJ) and check out the night sky and the view of the valley.

if none of the above work for you, just drive to downtown palo alto (university) and walk around, check out the bars/restaurants/stuff. at least it's something to do.

Agree with the rest - if you won't have your own car, the city (SF) might be a better place for you to spend time. Use BART or Muni to access different parts of the city.

If you're determined to hang out in Silicon Valley, there are a couple of main streets where you can walk around. Take caltrain to the Palo Alto station, and walk over to University Avenue to browse the shops, cafes, and restaurants. Grab a frozen yogurt at Fraiche and people watch with a cup of coffee at University Cafe or Coupa Cafe. Alternatively, take the Marguerite shuttle to the Stanford campus, and walk around the Main Quad area. View Memorial Church, Hoover Tower, and sit down at one of the benches at the Oval to enjoy the pretty scene.

You can also take the caltrain to the Mountain View station, and walk over to Castro St. Grab a milk Tea at Tea Era or a gelato at Gelato Classico. The restaurants on Castro St are a bit more ethnic, so you have access to Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Mediterranean, Indian.

If you somehow get access to a car, there are some great restaurants scattered around Sunnyvale, Milpitas, San Jose, etc. Try out Palace BBQ Buffet in Sunnyvale, Vung Tau in Milpitas, Gochi or Tanto in Cupertino/Sunnyvale, Walia in San Jose, DishDash in Sunnyvale.

Response by poster: Best advice here was to just go to SF if I don't have a car (because I didn't).

With the two hours I ended up having, I took the BART into San Francisco, walked around union square, and ate in the least touristy place I could find in Chinatown. It was fun.
