Get on the bus?

Last minute Chicago commute question. I have an appointment on Michigan Ave tomorrow morning at 8. Usually I take the 22 bus to Michigan Ave but every morning I hear on the radio that Lake Shore Drive is a mess during rush hour these days. Is it ultimate foolishness to take a Lake Shore Drive bus during rush hour tomorrow?

Otherwise I'll take the train, but that's more walking and I'm lazy.

Best answer: If you're talking taking Lake Shore Drive south towards downtown at rush hour, then I'd suggest taking the train. My commute takes me north from downtown up to the north end of LSD and it seems like traffic is always packed on the south-bound side (around 7:30-8:30 time frame). There's always variability, but if this is an important appointment, I wouldn't risk it.

Best answer: Yes, Lake Shore Drive is a mess right now due to the median construction, which will apparently prevent a repeat of last year's car-trapping blizzard apocalypse. I commute every day by car from Andersonville to the loop and have not made it to work in less than 45 minutes, even leaving the house at 7 am. It's also raining now, which will make it worse. I'd take the train unless you want to be on the bus at 6 am.

Best answer: Yeah, LSD has been really slow in the morning lately, I'd avoid it. Where are you coming from?

Coming from the south is not as bad as from up north down to Michigan. But yes, construction. Can you just get up earlier?
