Non-Simpsons Animated Shorts

I am trying to track down a cartoon short that played in movie theaters (or possibly just a movie theater in eastern Massachusetts) in the late 80's / early 90's. My memory is very vague, but it seems like it was a Simpsons clone (including a boy with spiked hair), and possibly a rude dog, but I'm not sure if it actually premiered pre-Simpsons. In my memory the boy was voiced by Joshua Miller, but he's not credited for anything like that. Regardless, he had that same kind of sinister/leering voice.

I don't think I'm just thinking of the early Simpsons shorts from the Tracey Ullman Show.

Best answer: Maybe Family Dog?

Best answer: I was also thinking Family Dog. It first was a short on the series Amazing Stories, then developed into a series later. If you saw it in a theater, it was probably shown with The Land Before Time (1988).

Response by poster: Awesome, thanks. It was definitely Family Dog and Land Before Time makes sense. Now to go test my memory against reality...
