Hotels in Budapest, Vienna, and Munich?

So I'm going to Europe, and I'll be in Budapest, Vienna and Munich for about 2-3 days each in mid-July. Good fun, but I have nowhere to stay, and I've never been to the latter two before.

Can anyone with personal experience recommend hotels and/or general areas for accomodations in any of the three? I'm not looking for anything fancy, but I am looking for something more than a hostel (private rooms and bathroom mandatory, etc). My price range is in the neighbourhood of $75 - $100 US per night. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

try venere for hotels.

Vienna is wonderful--there's a real sense of past grandeur and empire. : >

I'd stay within the Ring in Vienna if you can afford it or on or near Mariahilferstrasse (sp? it's a big main st/blvd)

In Munich, the Biederstein is a great hotel. The rooms are nice, and the location is perfect. And although they might seem a bit high, the prices are really a great deal compared to other options.

I highly recommend the Hotel Corvinus! It's right in the Mariahilferstrasse neighbourhood and seconds from the subway.

It looks like their rates for the summer are 85 Euros for a single room. This is pushing the upper limit of your budget, I guess, but the place is really nice and in a great locaion.

I stayed there in April 2004 in a "room for four" with three other students. It was quite large and had a private (albeit small) bathroom. A fairly decent breakfast (toast, cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc.) was included in the cost of the room as well. The proprieters were very nice and went out of their way to help us out (picking up transit passes for us, etc.).

In Budapest, try Guesthouse Garibaldi, 5 Garibaldi Uc. There may be a phone number online, not sure. It is a 4 or 5 room guesthouse with reasonable rates and an old lady who speaks French, German, English and Hungarian.

I lived in Vienna for a year. The most important thing is not to limit yourself to the Inner Ring - hit the 7th, 8th and 9th districts too. Especially the Naschmarkt, a giant outdoor food market nead the Seccession. A trip to Nussdorf, in the hills surrounding Vienna, is also great.

Email me for more specific recommendations if you like.

I stayed in the Hotel Helvetia (Schillerstr. 6 near the Bahnhofspl.) in Munich and really liked it. It's relatively inexpensive, very comfortable, and has an amazing breakfast. It was recommended by both the Rick Steeves and Let's Go travel guides I had with me at the time.

Pension Pertschy (Vienna) I loved the location and the prices are listed on their site. I hope you find someplace that makes you happy. Enjoy your journey.
