Little house in a bigger house

Help me find someone else’s dream house.
Many years ago (not sure how many but I think it was during the 1990’s) I saw a home and garden photo spread about a house, I’m pretty sure in the American Midwest. It looked like a modern glass house with a country cottage built inside.
That's actually what it turned out to be. As I remember it, the owners had inherited their family home, a small country house, but while it had too much sentimental value to tear down, it wasn’t large enough to fit their needs. So they had an architect build their new house around the cottage – a big glass modern jewel box of a house that enclosed the old home completely and used it as a living room, with sleeping quarters on the surrounding space and upper floors.
I remember a shot of the house at night, lit from within so you could clearly see the big lit cube with a little scenic house inside. I’m fairly certain it was in either the New York Times Magazine, the NY Mag’s Home Edition, or Metropolis magazine. Have been searching forever with no luck, but it still haunts me. I would love to see that house again. Anyone out there know it or Google better than I?

There's this one, if you have a generous definition of "the Midwest" which encompasses Sweden.

Response by poster: Yes! Perplexity, thanks!!! You found it!!!
I love that other architects also created the same idea... if I only had the land (and the house to begin with)...

Response by poster: (and I also love that I got pretty much all the facts wrong, and someone still found it. Metafilter rocks!)

There is this one too that seems to be a variation on the theme. I love the crack in the wall
