What's a good gift for a French wedding?

I need suggestions for a wedding gift for French friends getting married in Bordeaux.

A friend of my wife's, who is from Bordeaux, was recently married to a German dude in Germany. But she's having a reception in Bordeaux in a couple weeks which we are attending. Naturally, we want to bring a gift.

Ideally, this would be something relatively easy to travel with!

Suggestions?

It's not clear from your question how well you know these people. If you're not really sure about their likes, dislikes, living situation, etc., how about a gift certificate (cheque cadeau) from a store in Bordeaux? There's an Ikea and a FNAC, two places where most people could find something fun and useful.

What does your wife think? Does she know both of them or just the bride? What is their living situation like? What do they like to do?

I'd try to come up with an experience they would enjoy and buy the experience for them. Nothing to pack - all you get is a voucher so ideal in the circumstances. If that's too expensive perhaps vouchers or a subscription they would enjoy.
