what is this book I've never read but would like to?

a book advertised on postcards in cafes in melbourne, sometime in the last 15 years with a phrase about a man who felt he was living his life in currents bigger than him?
A company in Melbourne called Avantcard leave advertising postcards in cafes around Melbourne. I saw a postcard in the Tinpot cafe in Fitzroy North years ago which I remember as being white with a paragraph of large black text. The text was an excerpt from a book, I'm guessing it was a new book, and it was not a writer I had heard of. I have a feeling it might have been a first time, male writer who had won a prize of some kind. I probably saw the postcard more than 5 years ago but less than 15.
the paragraph described a man and a woman walking a street, and the man thinking about how restricted and not quite in control of his own destiny he feels. The is a line something like:
'we live our lives swept along in the eddies of much greater currents'
It was an intriguing piece of writing and would like to know what the book was and read it.

Yeah, it might be worth emailing Avantcard (they post a recent archive of cards on their website, so maybe they have a list for previous years as well) or posting your question on their Facebook page.
If I had to throw out some wild guesses, though:
The Blindman's Hat, by Bernard Cohen
Zigzag Street or Bachelor Kisses, by Nick Earls
Candy, by Luke Davies

Response by poster: I'll email avantcard,
but I've got a feeling Hot Soup's got it already.
