Why won't vimeo embeds play?

How come Vimeo embeds never work for me?
I use both FF 3.6 and FF 4. I do have flashblock and adblock plus, but I'm almost positive I've whitelisted vimeo (infact, I can watch vimeo on the vimeo site proper, just never their embeds)...
I should clarify that I can see the first frame of the video in the embed. It just never plays after I hit the play button.
Is this common? Is there a solution? I just don't get it. It's quite annoying to have to click to go through to vimeo itself instead of being able to watch the embed. Help!

This is true for me on Chrome 12.0, Mac OS X 10.6.7 with Flashblock enabled. Vimeo videos work on the Vimeo site, but never embeded. Disabling Flashblock extension on Chrome allows it to work.

I dislike Vimeo for similar reasons. Win XP + FF 3.6 + NoScript. I get all sorts of inconsistencies with getting Vimeo videos to play, while Youtube works okay.
Weirdest one is that sometimes I can jump ahead past the time that's been pre-buffered, sometimes I can't. (Though maybe Vimeo intentionally behaves differently for different videos.) But yeah, you're not alone.

I go through a lot of video. Never had a problem.
Restart the browser with all your extensions disabled. The adblock "off" button seems to have an odd idea of what off means sometimes. (Use the "Continue In Safe Mode" button and this will only be temporary.) Then try again. If the embeds work, your extensions are the problem, and you know where to start.
If that doesn't help and you're on Windows, a copy of Portable Firefox might help you determine whether your actual installation(as opposed to extensions) is the problem, assuming the embeds behave within it.

I have the same problem, though it will usually work if I disable Flashblock and ABP. (Though, even disabling those does nothing to help Vimeo's horrible... streaming... with... constant... pauses... every... few... seconds...)

[I should note "never had a problem" includes "have never used Adblock."]

I have the exact same issue. Sometimes it won't play in FF even on the Vimeo site. Embeds work okay in Chrome, even though I also use Flashblock there.

A solution for Chrome/WinXP:
Right click on the flashblock image, and select Allow flash (temporary). Then, click on the forward play icon, and things should proceed normally.
Good ruck.
