Getting started with Applescript Studio

I need to learn how to build Applescript Studio apps in a very short amount of time. I mostly need to build widgets that capture variables through dialogs, run some shell commands and consume some webservices. Dashboard isn't an option in the target environment. Can anyone recommend some online guides other than Apple's dev site or some decent books?

The best source of information is the mailing list at Apple. Complete list here.

Okay, so I don't really know the difference between AppleScript proper and AppleScript Studio, but for AppleScript itself, this at least used to be considered essential reading. I would expect this to be pretty useful, too.

That second book is the one you want. If you ask AppleScript questions on Usenet, there's a good chance the author of that book will answer it. Goodman's book was good in its day, but notice that all the positive reviews of the book are from the mid to late 1990s. I don't think there's an updated version with anything at all in it about AppleScript Studio or even Mac OS X. Neuberg's book has only one section on AppleScript Studio, but at least it was written in this century.

You can buy an updated version of the Goodman book as an "Ebook" here. YMMV and all that jazz.
